Taylor’s.

Posted in introducing.. by Jason Mekkam on June 28, 2010

This is Taylor’s. We’re in a relationship.

Although, I’ll admit. Our relationship isn’t all that healthy.

I try to keep what we have on the very low. Shucks, some might even call me a douchebag for how I treat her. Lord knows I try to avoid her as much as possible.

“She’s hella tired,” I tell the homies. “She stays on that same shit, different day. Nothing changes with her. Always playin the same music/havin over the same people. Sure we’ve met up late night a couple times cuz I struck out landing that tease Rennie, but that’s old news. I’m off that. Trust. Taylors is wack. I ain’t never going back. Plus ya’ll know I can’t stand being around her when I’m sober.”

But then. Sure enough..

Churcccch.

I approach southern rap music with extreme caution. This is why:

Vodpod videos no longer available.

The Church Dance.

“It’s so easy a caveman can do it.”

My favorite part is at 0:52. Kid walks right through the shot, looks at dancing duo, shakes his head, then walks the other way.

Classic.

But before you dismiss this video as ridiculous, I would strongly encourage you to treat the above vid a wee bit more serious like. Take note of its simple yet infectious beat. The cute little black children it features. Its easy to repeat dance. And its overall inclination towards buffoonery.

With those notes you just jotted, I’d like you too please distinguish this vid from a Soulja Boy video. Or a GS Boys video. Or Unk an video.

Gotcha.

Trick question. Cuz truth is you can’t. And herein lies the problem. When it no longer becomes easy to tell a tell apart parody/imitation from the supposed genuine deal, something done gone terribly wrong.

Solution: I propose a complete do over. With the exception of a select few (OutKast, UGK, Goodie Mob, T.I., Gucci Mane, Big K.R.I.T.), I say we work to pass a referendum preventing music originating outta the Dirty Dirty from infiltrating our air waves till they decide to come correct. Enough is enough.

Imma get started on the paperwork right now..

Today’s Daily Math: Beats + Babes = Bitches??

Posted in truth. by Jason Mekkam on June 26, 2010

If I had a vagina I’m not sure how down with hip-hop I’d be.

Just keeping it 100.

At their most basic, many raps ideologically are nothing more than ego-driven pissing contests. Boasts set to beats. Blame the lost art of battle rapping. While the ancient practice of two dudes going at each other in fierce competition of the verbals is all but extinct, its legacy of lyrical showmanship very much remains with us.

Consequently, you’re favorite MC today feels compelled to not only speak on wax bout how dope he be, but too bout how his dopeness is exponentially superior to your dopeness. That’s how the game works he figures. Thus he throws his success in your face. Unapologetically. He lets you know. His rented Bentley is mad sexier than your preowned 94’ Nissan Altima. He stays flyin on private jets to Cancun while you taking the bus to Taco Bell.

His dick > Yo dick.

Under this mindset, hip-hop becomes a numbers game. Whoever has more, in terms of size, quantity, or excess wins. What’s a trip though is how females equate into rap’s little contest o’ numbers.
